Safety comes before step 1
Repairs go wrong in a few predictable ways: stored energy, raised loads, heat, power and the wrong part. Every Mechy guide is built around them.
Safety first
Do these before step 1.
- DANGERNever work under a load held up only by hydraulics, a jack or a crane. Lower it or block it.
- DANGERLock out and tag out: engine off, key out, controls locked, stored pressure relieved.
- WARNINGHot oil, coolant and exhaust parts burn. Let them cool before you open anything.
- WARNINGTurn off the power at the breaker before touching wiring, and test that it is off.
- NOTICETorque, pressure and capacities from a guide are flagged: check them in your manual.
Stop and call a pro or the dealer if
- The job involves gas, a mains electrical panel, multi-piece rims, accumulators or a track adjuster under pressure.
- What you see doesn't match the guide.
- You don't have the right tool for a step.
Mechy's guides help, but they don't replace the maker's manual, your training or your site's rules. If something doesn't match what you see, stop and check.
What every guide does
- Safety first. The checks for the job come before step 1, in the standard danger, warning and notice bands.
- A verdict. Green for DIY, amber for skilled work, red for "call a pro or the dealer".
- Specialist tasks. Jobs for trained techs only carry a banner, and the app asks you to confirm the safety steps first.
- Specs flagged. Numbers that matter are marked "check your manual", never presented as certain.
- Refusals. Mechy says no to requests that are unsafe or aren't repairs.
- Report a problem. Every step in the app has "Report a problem". Reports go to a person, and the guide is fixed or pulled.
- Human review. Guides join the public catalog only after a person reviews them. Heavy-equipment, electrical and gas guides are reviewed by someone qualified in that trade.
Mechy is a guide, not a replacement for the maker's manual, your training or your site's rules. Read the terms.
