    What you get back

    What it is

The part's name, in the words a parts counter uses, and what it does.

    The numbers on it

Stamped, cast or printed numbers read out when they are legible in the photo.

    Where it lives

The machine or fixture it most likely comes from, and the system it belongs to.

    How to replace it

A step-by-step guide with tools, parts and safety, drawn for your photo.

    Photos that work

    1. The whole part, in daylight or under a work light, on a plain background.
    2. A close-up of any numbers or markings. Wipe the grease off first.
    3. Something for scale: a coin, a tape measure or your glove.
    4. Where it came from, if you can: the spot on the machine or in the cabinet.

A wrong guess is possible, so check a part number against the maker's catalog or your dealer before you buy.

    Questions

Is there an app that identifies parts from a picture?

Yes. Snap the part here or in the Mechy app and Mechy tells you what it is, what it does and how it is usually replaced, then makes a step-by-step guide for the job.

Can it find the part number?

When a number is stamped, cast or printed on the part and is readable in the photo, Mechy reads it out. Always check a number against the maker's parts catalog or your dealer before you order.

Does it work on heavy equipment parts?

Yes. Mechy is built for heavy equipment as well as the jobs around the house: hydraulic fittings, pins and bushings, filters, sensors, teeth and cutting edges, as well as everyday hardware.

    What photos work best?

One of the whole part in good light, one close-up of any numbers or markings, something for scale (a coin, a tape measure or your glove), and if you can, one of where it came from on the machine.
