Bobcat code M0810: Engine coolant temperature too high

What it means

Engine coolant is hotter than normal (warning level). Bobcat says to find and fix the cause before you operate again.

Can I keep running?

Stop: fix before running

No. Stop the machine safely (bucket or attachment down, engine off) and find the cause before you run it again.

Check first

  1. Park on level ground, lower the lift arms and attachment to the ground, stop the engine and remove the key. Let the engine cool. Never open the coolant tank cap on a hot engine.
  2. Clean the radiator and coolers as the O&M manual shows.
  3. When cool, check the coolant level at the coolant tank and look for leaks.
  4. Check the fan and fan drive for damage.
  5. If it overheats again under light work, call your dealer.

Likely causes

  • Debris blocking the radiator or cooler
  • Low coolant level or a leak
  • Loose or broken fan drive
  • Faulty thermostat or temperature sensor

The fix

Cleaning the cooling package and topping up coolant fixes many cases. Persistent overheating needs a dealer check of the thermostat, fan drive and sensor.
