Bobcat code H7404: Main controller no communication

What it means

On M-Series loaders, the machine has lost communication with the main controller. Bobcat lists the same fault under several prefixes (H7404, L7404, R7404).

Can I keep running?

Stop: fix before running

No. Stop the machine safely (bucket or attachment down, engine off) and find the cause before you run it again.

Check first

  1. Park on level ground, lower the lift arms and attachment to the ground, stop the engine and remove the key.
  2. Check battery voltage, then clean and tighten the battery cables and ground straps. Bobcat notes that loose or corroded grounds can set several codes at once.
  3. Check the fuses and relays for that circuit using the fuse decal or the O&M manual.
  4. Inspect the connector and harness at the part named in the code for corrosion, water, rubbed-through insulation or pushed-back pins.
  5. Restart and see if the code comes back. If it does, stop and call your Bobcat dealer.

Likely causes

  • Low battery voltage or bad grounds
  • Blown fuse or relay feeding the main controller
  • Loose, corroded or damaged connector or harness
  • Failed controller (less common)
