Bobcat code M0514: Hydraulic charge pressure extremely low

What it means

Hydraulic charge pressure has dropped to Bobcat's extremely low level. Charge pressure is the low-pressure oil supply for the hydrostatic drive system.

Can I keep running?

Stop: fix before running

No. Stop the machine safely (bucket or attachment down, engine off) and find the cause before you run it again.

Check first

  1. Park on level ground, lower the lift arms and attachment to the ground, stop the engine and remove the key.
  2. Check the hydraulic fluid level in the sight gauge with the machine level and the lift arms down. Top up only with the fluid listed in the O&M manual.
  3. Never feel for a leak with your hand. Use cardboard; a pinhole leak can inject oil under the skin.
  4. Check when the hydraulic/hydrostatic filter was last changed and replace it if it is due.
  5. If the level and filter are fine, have charge pressure measured with a gauge before you replace the sensor.

Likely causes

  • Low hydraulic/hydrostatic fluid level
  • Leak in a hose, fitting or component
  • Plugged hydraulic/hydrostatic filter
  • Faulty charge pressure sensor or wiring
  • Worn charge pump or internal leakage

The fix

Adding fluid, fixing a leak or changing a plugged filter fixes many cases. If the level is good, a dealer or hydraulic tech should measure charge pressure to tell a bad sensor from a worn pump. Don't keep running it, because low charge pressure can damage the drive pumps.
